About the event
The reality is that we are all getting older – none of us can escape this. Current housing options on the market for people to consider as they age are unappealing, with a royal commission into the aged care sector highlighting the problems.
The Henry Project model offers a strategy for people to maintain control as they age, by downsizing in their own homes in a manner that suits their changing needs. Homeowners can modify their home, to allow it to be shared with other parties, where each party would have their own independent space, in addition to some common facilities. These multi-household dwellings can provide better affordability if a co-ownership is adopted. They can also provide better social connection, with the ability to find company, support and a friendly ear as simple as walking out your door. Indeed, a growing body of evidence shows that people with good social connections are healthier, happier, can overcome illness more effectively and can live longer. The Henry Project offers a way to build this connection into your home environment.
Come along and take the first step towards a model for shared living which could allow you to:
• Remain in the home and neighbourhood you love and are familiar with
• Make modifications to your home to make it more liveable as you age
• Have other parties living with you, for support, security and companionship, whilst maintaining a degree of independence
• Release some equity by selling a portion of the home to other households
• Improve your quality of life
